Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of self-talk group counseling to enhance emotional regulation among students at SMP Negeri 3 Palu. Employing Action Research based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, the study involved two cycles with eight class IX K students selected through purposive sampling. Participants included five students with low emotional regulation and three with good regulation. Data was collected using a validated and reliable emotional regulation questionnaire. The Wilcoxon Test analysis revealed significant improvements in emotional regulation. Scores increased from an average of 23.5 (58.75%) before intervention to 27.5 (68.75%) after the first cycle, and to 31.5 (78.75%) after the second cycle. The Asymp. Sig (2-tailed) value of 0.011 (< 0.05) confirmed the effectiveness of the intervention. These findings demonstrate that self-talk group counseling significantly enhances students’ emotional regulation, supporting its application in school settings.
