Peer Review Process

The e-Journal JSCESS (Journal of Sport Coaching Education and Sport Science Tadulako) maintains the standard of double-blind peer review whilst improving the efficiency of the process. All research articles published in the e-Journal JSCESS (Journal of Sport Coaching Education and Sport Science Tadulako) undergo a full peer-review process, the key features of which are listed below:

  1. The e-Journal JSCESS (Journal of Sport Coaching Education and Sport Science Tadulako) employs a two-stage process: Following a technical check, your submission will first be reviewed by the editorial team to assess its suitability for publication in the journal. If deemed suitable, your submission will be forwarded to one of the editors to handle the review process and decision-making.

  2. If your manuscript falls within the scope and meets the criteria of the e-Journal JSCESS (Journal of Sport Coaching Education and Sport Science Tadulako), it will be submitted to the Editor. The Editor will identify and contact reviewers who are recognised experts in the field.

  3. As peer review is a voluntary service, this process may take some time, but rest assured that the Editor will periodically remind reviewers if they do not respond in a timely manner. During this stage, the status will appear as ‘Under Review’.
    Once the Editor has received the minimum number of expert reviews, the status will change to ‘Reviews Required Completed’.

  4. It is also possible that the Editor may decide that your manuscript does not meet the journal’s criteria or scope and does not require further consideration. In this case, the Editor will promptly inform you that the manuscript has been rejected and may recommend a more suitable journal.

Peer review of referred papers:

The Editor of the e-Journal JSCESS (Journal of Sport Coaching Education and Sport Science Tadulako) will promptly decide whether to accept, reject or request revisions of the referred paper based on the reviews and editorial insights from the supporting journal. Furthermore, the Editor will have the option to seek additional reviews if necessary. Authors will be notified when the Editor decides that further review is required. Submitted articles will first be reviewed by the Editor for topic and writing style in accordance with the guidelines. All manuscripts are subject to double-blind peer review; the identities of the reviewers and authors are concealed from one another throughout the review process to meet standards of academic excellence. In summary, the steps are:

  1. Manuscript Submission (by the author).
  2. Manuscript Screening and Selection (by the manager and editor).
  3. The editor has the right to accept, reject, or refer the manuscript for review immediately. Prior to further processing, a plagiarism check using Turnitin is carried out on every manuscript.
  4. Manuscript Review Process (by the reviewers).
  5. Notification of Acceptance, Revision, or Rejection of the Manuscript (by the editor to the author based on reviewers’ comments).
  6. Manuscript Revision (by the author)
  7. Submission of Revisions based on Reviewers’ Suggestions (by the author) following the same workflow as point one.
  8. If the reviewers appear satisfied with the revisions, a notification of acceptance (by the editor).
  9. Proofreading and publication process.

Steps 1 to 5 are considered one round of the peer-review process (see the grey area in the diagram). The editor or editorial board considers the feedback provided by the peer-reviewers and makes a decision. The following are the most common decisions:

  1. Accepted as is. The journal will publish the paper in its original form;
  2. Accepted with Minor Revisions: the journal will publish the paper and ask the author to make minor corrections (allowing the author to revise within a specified timeframe);
  3. Accepted with Major Revisions: the journal will publish the paper provided the author makes the changes suggested by the reviewers and/or the editor (allowing the author to revise within a specified timeframe);
  4. Resubmit (conditional rejection), the journal is willing to reconsider the paper in the next decision-making round after the author makes major changes;
  5. Rejected (immediate rejection), the journal will not publish the paper or reconsider it even if the author makes major revisions.
