Jurnal Akademika Kimia is an electronic open-access journal that aims to publish the latest research results in the area of chemistry education and pure chemistry from academicians, professionals, and other practitioners at all levels of chemistry education. The journal coverage includes the following: current trends of professional chemistry education, educational technology, teacher education, educational science, learning assessment, learning models and development of learning materials, as well as pure chemistry including organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, biochemistry and other chemistry fields such as environmental chemistry, that emphasis on a broad description of the general methods and processes for the synthesis, modification, and characterization of chemical materials.

The history of the Jurnal Akademika Kimia (JAK) can be best described by the following timeline of events.

Year	Information
2012-2019	Articles from Volumes 1 to 4 (Issues 1–3) were published on the former website (http://jurnal.untad.ac.id/jurnal/index.php/JAK/). These articles are currently inaccessible because the website has been decommissioned by the university.
2019	Journal Akademika Kimia (JAK) migrated from its previous website (http://jurnal.untad.ac.id/jurnal/index.php/JAK/) to a new website at http://jurnal.fkip.untad.ac.id/index.php/jak/
2019 - 2022	Articles published in Volume 9, Issue 4, until Volume 11 were made available on the website: http://jurnal.fkip.untad.ac.id/index.php/jak/.
2023 -2024	The JAK website was inaccessible until July 2024, resulting in delays in the publication of Volumes 12 and 13 and a decline in the number of manuscripts submitted and accepted.
2024	Journal Akademika Kimia (JAK) migrated from http://jurnal.fkip.untad.ac.id/index.php/jak/ to its current website: https://jurnalfkipuntad.com/index.php/jak/.
2024	Due to the limited number of accepted manuscripts, Volume 13 was published with five articles per issue.
2025	Starting from Volume 14, Issue 3, the journal adopted a revised manuscript template, with modifications to the keyword section and an increase in the minimum reference requirement from 15 to 25.
2023-2026	Manuscripts accepted for Volume 12 (1-4) through Volume 15 (Issues 1 and 2) have not yet been managed in full accordance with the journal's standard Submission–Peer Review–Editing–Production workflow, as described in the author guidelines. This was due to adjustments required following the website migration and the restoration of the journal management system.
