This article examines the various strategies and forms of struggle undertaken by the Indonesian people in their efforts to maintain independence after the Proclamation of Independence on August 17, 1945. The purpose of this research is to identify the various steps taken in facing Dutch military aggression and Allied intervention. The method used in this research is a literature review, examining various relevant historical sources. The results of the discussion indicate that the Indonesian people's struggle was carried out through two main approaches: physical and diplomatic. The physical struggle was reflected in armed battles in various regions, such as the Battle of Surabaya, guerrilla warfare, and general popular resistance. On the other hand, diplomatic efforts were realized through various international negotiations, such as the Linggarjati and Renville Agreements, to obtain recognition of sovereignty. Furthermore, the implementation of a total war strategy involving all elements of society was a crucial factor in maintaining independence. Indonesia was ultimately able to defend its sovereignty from the threat of re-colonization. The results of this study also show that the struggle for independence was not only carried out by the military but also involved all levels of society, such as youth, regional figures, and ordinary people with a strong sense of nationalism. Unity, cooperation, and love of country were the main strengths of the Indonesian nation in facing the threat of colonialism. Therefore, the struggle to maintain independence is crucial evidence of the Indonesian people's patriotic spirit in maintaining the integrity of the nation
