UPAYA GURU DALAM MENINGKATKAN MINAT MEMBACA SISWA KELAS Ⅲ SD 13 SIRENJA

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the efforts made by teachers to enhance the reading interest of third-grade students at SD 13 Sirenja. The research employs a qualitative method, which is used to study objects in their natural context, with the researcher serving as the key instrument. Data collection was conducted through triangulation (a combination of methods), including observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out inductively and involved three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. To ensure data validity, source triangulation and methodological triangulation were applied.The findings of this study, conducted at SD 13 Sirenja, indicate that the reading interest of third-grade students is still low, with only around 20% of students demonstrating a strong interest in reading. Therefore, several teacher-led strategies were implemented to improve students’ reading interest based on data analysis and relevant theories. The third- grade teacher motivates students by giving recognition to those who read fluently, awarding them a “Best Reader” title to encourage enthusiasm for reading. Struggling readers receive additional guidance during break time to practice reading texts. Other strategies include providing summaries for each lesson, underlining key sentences to facilitate comprehension, and implementing relay reading or turn-taking reading activities to help students stay focused on reading, listening, and understanding.
