Abstract

This study aims to improve early reading and writing skills through collaboration between teachers and parents of students at SD Inpres 2 Besusu. Early reading and writing skills are fundamental abilities that are crucial as a foundation for students’ academic success in
subsequent educational levels. This study employed the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, conducted in two cycles, comprising the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were second-grade students at SD Inpres
2 Besusu who were struggling with early reading and writing skills. The intervention was implemented through structured learning at school combined with home-based learning support provided by parents based on guidelines given by the teacher. Data collectiontechniques included observation, tests, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study showed that the students’ early reading and writing skills improved across all indicators. The average student achievement increased from 61.8% in Cycle I to 84.6% in
Cycle II. Improvements were also observed in reading fluency, word and sentence comprehension, spelling accuracy, legibility of handwriting, and parental involvement in learning support. Thus, collaboration between teachers and parents has proven effective in
improving the early reading and writing skills of elementary school students.
