Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of Big Books in increasing the reading interest of second-grade students at SD Inpres 3 Tondo. The background of this study is based on the low reading interest of elementary school students and the limited use of interesting and contextual learning media. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with 20 students as subjects in the 2024/2025 academic year. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the use of Big Book media, which features large text and colorful illustrations, was able to increase students' interest, engagement, and understanding of the reading content. Students showed higher enthusiasm, active participation in reading activities, and better comprehension of the stories compared to conventional learning. These findings confirm that Big Books are effective as an alternative medium for early literacy learning. Thus, the use of Big Books is recommended to support the improvement of reading interest and the quality of reading instruction in elementary schools, especially in the context of basic education in Indonesia today.
