This study aims to improve students’ speaking skills through the implementation of the discussion method in Indonesian language learning for fifth-grade students of SD Inpres Tulo. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, which consists of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The study was conducted in two cycles carried out gradually to improve the learning process. The subjects of this study were fifth-grade students of SD Inpres Tulo. Data were collected through observation and speaking skill tests supported by an assessment rubric. Data analysis used descriptive qualitative and quantitative approaches by calculating the percentage of learning completeness and the improvement of students’ scores. The results showed that the implementation of the discussion method significantly improved students’ speaking skills. The improvement was indicated by students’ active participation in expressing opinions, asking questions, and engaging in discussions, as well as the increase in speaking skill assessment scores in each cycle until achieving learning completeness. Therefore, the discussion method is effective in improving students’ speaking skills.
