Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ mathematics learning outcomes through the implementation of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model in fourth grade at SD Inpres Kalukubula. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects were 23 students, including 10 boys and 13 girls. Data were collected through learning outcome questionnaires, teacher activity observations, and student activity observations. The findings show an improvement across all assessment indicators. The average learning outcome increased from 60 in the pre-cycle to 72 in cycle I, and rose further to 85 in cycle II. Teacher and student activity scores also increased significantly in each cycle, reaching the “very good” category in cycle II. These results demonstrate that CTL creates meaningful learning, engages students actively, and helps them understand mathematical concepts through real-life contexts. Therefore, the CTL model can be used as an effective instructional strategy to enhance mathematics learning outcomes in elementary schools.
