Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ learning motivation in the Integrated Science and Social Studies subject through the implementation of the Discovery Learning model. This research employed a classroom action research design based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, which consists of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages conducted in two cycles. The subjects of this study were 28 fourth-grade students of SDN 3 Palu. Data were collected using observation sheets and learning outcome tests to measure students’ motivation and engagement during the learning process. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive qualitative and quantitative techniques by calculating the percentage of learning completeness and score improvement. The results showed that the implementation of the Discovery Learning model significantly improved students’ learning motivation. The average score increased from 55 in the pre-action stage to 82 in cycle I and 88 in cycle II. The percentage of completeness also improved from 46% to 67% and 77%. Therefore, the Discovery Learning model is effective in enhancing students’ engagement, independence, and learning motivation.
